It’s that time of the year again. Every year on St Patrick’s Day, and sometimes a few days before and after, millions of people celebrate the feast day of the patron saint of Ireland. Some because their Irish. Others because, well, they’re Irish for a day at least. And every year, they’ll spend money on shirts, hats, glasses that flash with shamrocks on them and many other things to go out on the town. For all of the money that people spend, you would think that there would be some quality shirts that you could use more than just the one time a year.
When I decided to start Donegal T’s, I wanted the focus to be on quality and things that people wanted to use time and time again. Between shirts, hats, hoodies, and all of the other things that can be embroidered or printed, if you’re going to spend the money you should expect to have something that will last and you want to wear. Last year, in March of 2023, I decided to start doing annual St Patrick’s Day designs that were done completely in house. While, the first of the shirt offerings only had two different types of designs, it was a rush to try and get something out. So the first piece of the puzzle was to come up with some creative designs. Well, in our second year of designs for St Patrick’s Day, I’m very pleased with the number we have and how they turned out. Along with that, I wanted to use Bella Canvas for all of the shirts, hoodies, long sleeves and crewnecks. This is one of the most comfortable brands and the shirts are designed to last. So it was a perfect fit and was in line with what I wanted for quality.
The final piece of the puzzle was the equipment to print and embroider everything. In December of 2022, I went after the best in embroidery equipment and thread. Next was at the end of 2023, we invested in new printing equipment designed with quality in mind. We also use inks that are meant to withstand numerous washes. Researching for 8 months the difference in equipment and scoping out what each machine can do at expos, that lead me to make the leap and invest in equipment that was built with all of those factors in mind. It took a while for testing and getting the formula right, but the results have been worth the pain and the wait. Our thread is top quality, our prints are crisper than ever and the details are incredible. So it’s not just the St Patrick’s gear that should be quality, it’s everything we do.
